July 4th - Coming Soon

Time is flying by.  I know many of you have said the same thing.  July 4th is almost here and we are not ready for our big outdoor fling.  The weather forecast is not good and I don't want 40 people in my house!  I guess we just wait and call it at the last moment.  Such is life in the Pacific NW.
But regardless the weather, July 4th is a reminder of our freedom.  It is patriotic holidays that stir up my creative juices for cards for our deployed heroes.  Here is the latest using a sketch at What if Wednesdays.
The flag and sentiment are by Doodle Pantry

USA

Diane's Daydream Designs has some awesome patriotic digital images.  This one is from the American Sentiment Set.
I really like how the letters look like they are popped up off the page.  It is really just the shading on the colored digital.  And I love those little tiny star brads.

Shaped Cards - Not My Forte

It is rare that I make a shaped card but I made this doghouse with Doodle Pantry Digital images and a Doodle Pantry SVG for someone going through a tough time.  Still learning with my Silhouette Portrait but having more fun than frustration now.  It is worth the frustration when I can make something like this.

The puppy is from the set Doggies and Things
The SVG is called Ruff Day
I created the sentiment on my computer.

Is It Nice To Be Missed?

Often we say, "It is nice to be missed."  I started thinking about that recently and I'm not so sure.  If we are missing someone, we are usually feeling some emotional pain.  So if someone is missing me, I feel badly that they are feeling some sadness, etc.
Very soon I will be taking a trip, will be gone 7-8 days.  I know my dog is going to miss me terribly even though we have a house/dog sitter while we are gone.  Our dog is 14 now and follows me around the house from room to room or outside.  She does not like to be in a room if I am not there.  It really is bothering me that she will miss me.  It will not make me feel good to know that I am missed.   I couldn't help think of that when I made this card.

This darling image is by Diane's Dayream Designs.  Sentiment by Meljen.  Designer paper by Doodle Pantry.
Getting back to being missed, this card will go to OWH so some child will receive it from a mom or dad who is missing their child.
The sketch is an OWH sketch that Great Impressions is using for their challenge this month.

For "Deer" 'Ole Dad

It will be Father's Day in just a few days.  I made half a dozen cards with this Doodle Pantry image and most of them with the same sketch I found at OWH.    You know me - I like simple.

Camo ribbon, a few brads (one to hide a mistake) and wood grain patterned paper for the oval frame.
Wood grain patterned paper by Doodle Pantry, Creamy Caramel c/s by Stampin Up.
Misc. wood grain patterned paper scraps, Dark Chocolate c/s by GKD.
This last one was fun to do.  I have seen several cards with a deer or other wild animal printed or stamped onto news print.  I printed this image onto a piece of dictionary paper that I ordered from Kraft Journal.  The card base is Lipstick Red by GKD, then a layer of Kraft c/s under the plaid and as layers for the dictionary paper and sentiment.

Challenges:
Pile It On - patterned paper
Kraft Journal - for him
Craft Your Passion - Father's Day
Papertakes - for the boys
Sweet Stamps - for Dad
Tuesday Throwdown - special man

Sister Act - anything

Last One, I Promise

This is the last sailboat card with the Doodle Pantry image.  I promise. ( Well, at least for awhile. LOL.)   But I had so much fun playing with this image both in the pre-colored and the lined version, I just had to show you another one.

This time I again used the lined version but again turned the lines blue and used a piece of an old map for the BG.  Following the sketch at What if Wednesdays, I used a thin strip of map instead of twine or ribbon.

Challenges:
Craft Your Passion - for him
Simon Wednesday - masculine
Craft 4 eternity - for the boys
Stamping Boutique - masculine
Papertakes - anything
Word Art Wednesday - anything

Papermakeup Stamps Says Make It Masculine

Welcome to a new week and a new digi makeover challenge at Paper Makeup Stamps.  This will be my last post as a Paper Makeup Stamps DT member.  I have decided to step down.  So grateful for having been on the team this past year.  This Fall will bring some extra commitments for me so I am clearing the way now for more free time this summer before heading into September.  Just not enough hours or energy to do it all.  I know you all can relate.
You are probably thinking, "Wait a minute.  Didn't we see this last week?"  Close.  I did use and showcased the kite last week, but this is a different card. (Part of my new commitment to make more than one card with the same image before moving on to another.)  No sky - just distressing.  And I colored the kite to match the strip of patterned paper in my scrap box.
So as my blog title says, the new digi makeover challenge this week is to make something for the men. Paper MakeUp Stamps would love to see your works of art.

Challenges:
Papertakes - anything
Word Art Wednesday - anything
Simon Wednesday - masculine
Craft 4 eternity - for the boys
Stamping Boutique - masculine
Crafty Catz - inspired by a song "Let's Go Fly A Kite"

I Miss You, Dad

Many weeks ago I finished making Father's Day cards to send to OWH because they need the cards so early for mailing, but I continue to make masculine cards and cards for dads because those are needed all year.  As I planned out a few cards using Diane's Daydream Designs, one sentiment caught my eye - "I miss you, Dad"  Perfect sentiment for OWH cards, but it also stood out because I miss my dad.  He has been in Heaven for four years and I still miss him.
The images (pre-colored) and paper are by Diane's Daydream Designs.  I cut buttons out with a die.  I really like using this for OWH cards because they are so flat; I don't have to worry about the thickness of real buttons.

The sketch I used is the Mojo Monday sketch for this week:

Blue Waters

Here is another card with the Doodle Pantry set, Smooth Sailing, but this time I used the line images instead of the pre-colored.  Shock!!! I know - very odd for me but I thought it would be a great image to do in monochromatic.

I changed the lines of the boat and the map to blue before printing and then printed the map onto a blue card stock. The frame around the boat is cut out as a frame rather than layering the boat oval on top of  the blue oval.  It was fun to do something a little different and I even like how it turned out. LOL

Just a reminder that the New Released sets are 25% off for a few more days.

Challenges:
Kraft Journal - water
What if Wednesday  - mono
Love to Scrap - banner
Crafty Catz - anything

Doodle Pantry June Release

Another month gone; a new month is here, which means a new release by Doodle Pantry.

I love images of sail boats and the whole nautical theme.  I am really excited about one of the new sets at Doodle Pantry ( one of many that I am excited about).  As always, it come with lined images, pre-colored images, sentiments, and matching papers.
So for my card, I printed the water "map", but inserted the wheel and the sentiment before printing.  Then after cutting the sail boat out with a circle die, I glued the knotted twine around the circle.  Card base is a dark Kraft from Kraft Journal.  It was so simple to do, and yet it has an interesting element to it.
There are 11 new sets at Doodle Pantry and all eleven are 25% off right now.
The challenge at the  Doodle Pantry Blog begins at noon eastern time.  Something a little different this month, there is a theme - make it manly and the other change this month is that there will be 3 winners who will each receive $15.00 to spend at the store.  Now that is worth playing for.

Challenges:

Kraft Journal - CAS
Crafting from the Heart - anything
Die Cuttin Divas -  for the boys
Word Art Wednesday - anything
Really Reasonable Ribbon - masculine
Through the CraftRoom Door - anything
Simon Wednesday - anything
Crafty Catz -anything
