There may be some who disagree with me but I live in the Most Beautiful state in the U.S. Mountains, lakes, rivers, rain forest, desert, islands, dairies, berry fields, apple orchards, wheat fields, evergreens and cactus, hot and cold, rain and dry all depending upon what area of the State you live in.
Because we live on the West side of the mountains and toward the coast,
we do get a lot of rain. My husband keeps threatening to move, but summer in the Pacific N.W. is hard to beat and our Indian Summers are fabulous. (He just needs a hobby during the winter - LOL)
But you probably did not come to this blog to hear me brag about Washington State. It just so happens that it is Doodle Pantry Release Day for May images. And one of the new images is............ the State of Washington. Laurie is beginning her States series and chose Washington (yeah! Laurie !) as the first.
In each box of cards that I send to Operation Write Home, I put in some "Thank You" cards for the Heros. So for this card I added a "Thank you from Washington" . I used the outline form of the image, coloring it with pencils, making the West side a little bit more green than the East side. Also distressed the piece behind the state, allowing more blue on the coast line and greening the paper on the right side.
I love all the little icons that Laurie drew - things we are famous for: salmon, Space Needle, Mt St. Helens, apples, Rhododendrons.
Here is another card I made with the pre-colored images:
Al-ki is an Indian word that actually means bye and bye or hope for the future. It is the State motto.
This red boat is an old button. I removed the back so it glues flat to the paper.
Now how about a look at the entire set? And, remember, this comes with the outline forms too so you can color them yourself.
So if you are not from Washington State, you may not be as pumped as I am about this set, but I bet you will like one of the other sets in this month's release. So head over to Doodle Pantry and check them out and the sale May 1 - 6. one more thing: don't forget to play the challenge at Doodle Pantry Digital Challenge Blog

Marsha, you outdone yourself with these fabulous creations using the new Washington State set. Love your creative and clever designs. You did a masterful job incorporating all the neat elements Laurie included with this set.
ReplyDeleteLove that you used your state to say thanks. Beautiful card. Lori
ReplyDeleteI love your state cards and I know the heroes will also. I am as far away as I can be (Massachusetts) but I can still appreciate all of your state's attributes. Can you test us today, because I'know I'll forget by tomorrow? Great memory just very short. LOL - Al-ki
ReplyDeleteWonderful cards, Marsha! I've never had the opportunity to visit Washington but it sure sounds like a great place to visit. Love your layouts and all the fun extras you added. What a great idea for an OWH card!
ReplyDeleteOh, I NEED this! Great cards! I only have two quibbles: while it's got Mt St Helens, it's missing my favorite mt, Rainier, and while I might have decided to be a Washingtonian when I visited the worlds fair at thirteen, I do think my home state of Oregon has the better coastline and beaches. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch cool cards! Some hero is going to love getting a little piece of home!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great job you did with this set! I love them both but I especially love that second one with the torn paper.
ReplyDeleteBoth of these cards are just great! I often use picture postcards that I've made from my photos (I just get them copied onto card stock) of places in my stat to write Any hero notes on. I imagine it's a lot of fun for the heroes to get mail from so many different people across the country.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are wonderful and I learned a lot about your wonderful state too! Great job and I think I will be ready for your quiz! lol
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Georgia
I love your card and it so nice that you love your state. I love my state too, but you were so nice in the things you loved...I thought about mine....hurricanes, humidity, mosquitoes, flying roaches,..but I truly love my state....history galore, beaches, fresh seafood, mountains, lakes, Citadel, Air Force, Army, beach beach beach, unfortunately just one snow a year that last for one day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool idea...I need one of those for Michigan. Great looking card.
ReplyDeleteMarsha - I love this - it is just perfect and I cannot wait for Laurie to do my state doer Doodle Pantry.
ReplyDeleteMarsha...your Washington State cards are adorable. I love Laurie's idea of doing images of each state! Both the precolored and the none colored images are a great idea for when you're feeling really creative or would rather just do a little more assembling than creating. :) Both of your designs are very nicely done. "Thank you from Washington" really is a special personalization, isn't it? And "Al-ki" really is a nice sentiment for a Washington card, too! I didn't know that was your state motto and what it meant. So, not only did I get to see your lovely cards this morning, I also learned something about your lovely state! Thanks so much for sharing with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show. <3 Candy
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job you did on your cards! Such a fun theme too. Thanks so much for entering at Wags n Whiskers challenge, hope to see you again! :) hugs, Kimberly
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the idea of a "state card". I may try this. Both cards you shared are lovely. I enjoyed learning about Washington. I would love to visit WA some day, as I am sure it is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThese are both fantastic!! Great inspiration for using the state sets as they come!
ReplyDeleteMarsha, what a fantastic digi set and your cards are beautiful! I love the one with the torn-edged paper. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteLOVED your cards! They made me homesick! I'm originally from Oregon and my brother lives in Seattle. I've been in Tennessee for quite some time, but you are right...it is definitely hard to beat the Pacific NW! Thanks for joining us at Sister Act this week!
ReplyDeleteHugs~

Marsha, your two cards are fabulous!!!! I've never been to Washington but have always wanted to visit Seattle and the space needle. What a wonderful and proud tribute to your state.
ReplyDeleteLinda
WOW- I love that you love your state and taught us a lot about it! I love my tiny little state of Massachusetts- but you make me want to visit Washington! (My nephew plays for the Mariners minor league team- so maybe someday when he hits the bigs I will get there! LOL). Fantastic idea for any hero cards!
